Street Brawling With the Tekken Team
First screens and details for new urban-themed fighting game from ex-Tekken and Namco staff.
While the familiar urban gangster stylings for Namco's new PlayStation 2 fighting game Urban Reign may elicit indifferent yawns, a look at the game's pedigree does more to excite.
Developed by some of the same people behind fighting game classics Tekken and Soul Calibur, the game promises "a different type of fighting game than what consumers are used to seeing from Namco". As a newly recruited thug-for-hire, you're tasked with protecting a gang boss as a turf war unfurls around you.
Building on the experience gained creating two of the most revered franchises in games, Urban Reign fleshes out its well-honed skeleton of fighting game mechanics with mission-based gameplay.
And with more than 60 uniquely skilled fighters, 30 weapons (bats, bottles, planks, etc.) and 100 missions, Namco can't be faulted for not offering a varied experience.
Urban Reign will be out on PlayStation 2 this autumn.
