Clive Barker Dreams Up a Demonik Tale
Is it a movie, or is it a game? Well, actually it's both. First artwork inside.
The line between video games and movies has been distorted over the past five years by the translation between the two media, and now writer-director Clive Barker, with help from director John Woo, is blurring it further with the announcement of Demonik, a new project headed for next-gen consoles and movie theatres.
Demonik, which is being co-published by Woo's company Tiger Hill, will feature character designs and a story by Barker, who has also been offered the choice of writing and directing the movie.
In the game you play as "the ultimate bad guy - wreaking havoc with a variety of innovative and spectacular powers and abilities," according to co-publisher Majesco. A trailer released for the game hints at a story laced with demonic possession and revenge.
"Demonik will be an intense gaming experience," promises Barker. "I'm having a lot of fun enriching the game's mythology and polishing the characters till they shine. And, of course, adding a little bit of Barker darkness. Demonik promises to be a game that you will play with clammy palms."
A frightening portent then, which is all we'll have until the game is closer to release. Demonik should be in stores sometime during 2006.
