Jedi Top Jedi on the Charts
Movie warriors top the blocky kind as Star Wars dominates in the UK.
LucasArts knew what it was doing when it hosted a midnight sale at the Oxford Street branch of Virgin Megastore last Thursday to send off Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in style. The game, which contains 12 minutes of footage straight from the upcoming movie, was destined to be a hit, and hit it did, coming out on top of the weekly sales charts.
The No. 2 slot was also Star Wars flavoured, though with a decidedly blockier texture. Lego Star Wars dropped just one place, staying ahead of EA's resilient urban football title, FIFA Street. Together, Lego Star Wars and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith were responsible for nearly two-in-three top 10 sales for the week.
First-person shooter Pariah debuted in the top 10, a kindly fate sadly kept from Nintendo's latest DS game, Yoshi Touch & Go, which only managed a 22nd spot - well short of top-selling DS game Super Mario 64 DS.
Britons have not been kind to Bioware's latest RPG either. Jade Empire finds itself verging on dropping out of the top 20 in only its second week in shops, despite good reviews from everyone who's given it a go.
The top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 7 May, as determined by Chart Track, are given below:
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (LucasArts)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Rockstar)
- World Snooker Championship 2005 (Sega)
- Gran Turismo 4 (Sony)
- Pariah (Hip Games)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)
- TT Superbikes (Jester)
- Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 (Ubisoft)
