Sega Offers Phantasy Star Online for Free
They say you can't get something for nothing. Apparently they've been misinformed.
Online games are demanding beasts easily capable of stealing hundreds of hours of your life, so it's best to tread lightly when considering a new game. Sega is making that a bit easier by offering gamers free access to its latest Phantasy Star Online instalment for the next six weeks.
Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst is the fourth in the popular online RPG series and continues the story started in the original Dreamcast game. The series has shifted to PCs from its console roots, which opens it up to more players and also has the welcome side effect of allowing a better looking experience.
It's now seven years since the first wave of settlers arrived on Ragol and the incoming second wave is running into trouble, which is where you come in. Don't, however, expect to become overly comfortable, as Sega is planning to start a new storyline at the end of June.
As with most online RPGs, Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst is focussed on characters, items and fighting, and with more than 30 quests available now and thousands of items and weapons on offer, the chances of being lured back into the virtual world for obscene amounts of time are looking good.
