E3: First Guesses at PS3 Price
To be this good, takes a lot of cash.
At its E3 press conference on Monday, Sony wowed everyone with the best video game images the world has ever seen. But behind the stunning graphics and promises of gameplay innovation lie some important questions about the PlayStation 3, none of which perhaps is as important as the most obvious one: how much will it cost?
Sony isn't officially saying anything right now, which is not unexpected, considering that the console's release is a year or more away, but company representatives in Japan have suggested that the PlayStation 3 could sell for less than $500 (£275) when it hits next year, according to a report at GameSpot.
While this is more expensive than what any mainstream console has launched at, it should be remembered that the PlayStation 3 also includes hardware that will outperform anything available right now, even at double or triple the price. The actual price point will be revealed as the launch date approaches, so speculation will have to do for now.
