Taxi Driver Headed to Consoles
Yet another classic movie slated for game treatment. So far there's no evidence that De Niro is on board, though. First screens.
Robert De Niro has had many great acting roles, perhaps more so than any other actor, but one of his most memorable was as the mohawked New York cabbie Travis Bickle in Martin Scorsese's seminal flick Taxi Driver. Now, like many of its contemporaries, the movie is making the jump to videogames.
You may be wondering if De Niro will be around to utter his most famous interrogative, but his involvement is in doubt. While Majesco has confirmed that you'll be playing as Bickle in the game, De Niro appears to not have signed on to lend his voice and likeness - at least not yet.
Gameplay seemingly comes from the Grand Theft Auto-Driver-True Crime school of thought and features both on-foot and driving sections. The game dwells in Bickle's dissatisfaction with 1970's New York and his campaign of washing the grime that spoils the city through not-quite-legal vigilante means.
Recreating the era seems to be near the top of developer Papaya Studio's goals for the game, which they've gone for by using accurate recreations of New York of the '70s and music from the same time period.
Taxi Driver will be released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox next year.
