Atari Delivers a Fourth Driver
Proof that a game doesn't need to be good (or even halfway decent) to spawn a sequel.
Despite poor reviews, Atari's driving-action game Driver 3 sold well, so much so that the publisher has confirmed that a fourth game in the series is already in the works.
Specifics on the next Driver game are in short supply, but the publisher has revealed that the game, again being developed by Reflections Interactive, will be set in a photorealistic interpretation of New York.
Driver 3 was hampered by shoddy on-foot sections, and it seems that Reflections might be cutting back on this aspect, as this newest instalment is said to, "return [the series] to its game play roots with a highly sophisticated, adrenaline-pumping car chase AI and unprecedented vehicle dynamics and physics."
What, if any, effect the departure of lead designer Martin Edmondson from Reflections last December will have on the new Driver game is unclear. We'll find out early next year when the game is released for Xbox and PlayStation 2.
