Jedi Yawn Unhindered Atop the Charts
Faced with little in the way of competition, Star Wars stretches its lead to another week.
Perhaps things would be more difficult in the UK sales charts for the Star Wars franchise if there were some sort of credible competition or new blood being introduced, but in the wake of E3 publishers aren't even trying.
This week's Chart Track Top 10 ranking looks remarkably like last week's, with Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Lego Star Wars again dishing out the Force's one-two punch to the gut of unsuspecting opponents, the former making it five weeks in a row on top.
The major movement of the week was Midway's alien and conspiracy-laden shooter Area 51, which jumped from a respectable 8th position to a laudable 3rd place, taking the place of WWE Wrestlemania 21, which fell down to 9th.
To be fair, there were a few new releases last week, the most significant of which was VU Games' Cold Winter, which by all accounts is a solid, Bond-like shooter for PlayStation 2. But gamers seem to have been put off by the not-so-spectacular graphics of the game, meaning that it only managed to squeeze into the top 20 in 19th place on its debut weekend.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 4 June, as determined by Chart Track:
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (LucasArts)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- Area 51 (Midway)
- Championship Manager 5 (Eidos)
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Konami)
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Rockstar)
- Forza Motorsport (Microsoft)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)
- WWE Wrestlemania 21 (THQ)
