Developers Line Up for PS3 Hardware
If you build it, they will come. Just make sure you actually build enough of them.
Making PlayStation 3 games is no easy task. If coming to grips with the massive tech rammed into Sony's box isn't hard enough, there's also the pelvis-destroying crush of developers wanting to get into bed with Sony to deal with.
Demand for PlayStation 3 development kits is so high that Sony is struggling to keep up. More than a hundred developers have already taken delivery of the beast, according to a report at GameSpot, but Sony says that parts shortages have caused the waiting line to grow.
And whereas in the past it might have been possible to use high-power computers to estimate the working environment of PlayStation 3, the sheer horsepower of the console means that it's not so easy to do this time.
Either way, it's a problem that Sony needs to sort out. The company plans to start rolling out the PlayStation 3 onto store shelves by next spring, at least in Japan. Any delays would give that much more time for Microsoft, which is launching Xbox 360 at the end of year, to build up a sizeable lead in the race for console supremacy.
