Grand Theft Auto Back on Top in UK
Recidivism in action as the thugs from San Andreas reclaim the spot at the top of the pile.
There's something comforting about predictability, which is why the release of and subsequent chart topping by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PC and Xbox is so welcome.
The record setting game stormed onto the UK charts, with the Xbox version doubling the sales of the PC version and becoming the second fastest selling Xbox game of all time, behind Halo 2.
Further down the charts, though, the apathy in the face of almost no new releases is apparent. The biggest winner of the week was VU Games' action title Cold Winter, which parlayed good word of mouth and fair TV promotion into a ten-place jump.
There's little else happening on Chart Track's list, but that should change in the next fortnight, as publishers prepare to release some of the more anticipated games of the year, including Sony's God of War for PlayStation 2 and THQ's multiplatform Destroy All Humans.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 11 June, as determined by Chart Track:
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (LucasArts)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- Area 51 (Midway)
- Championship Manager 5 (Eidos)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Konami)
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)
- Cold Winter (VU Games)
- Guild Wars (NCsoft)
