Kingdom Under Fire Sequel Detailed
Phantagram's RTS-cum-action game was a surprise hit last year and the new instalment is taking things to the next level. First screens.
Last year's Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders gave gamers a solid if difficult hack-and-slash tinged romp on crowded battlefields brimming with life, and for the sequel, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes, developer Phantagram is planning to step it up.
The core elements of the so-called action RTS game remain, as you grow your army from its smallest beginning to a salivating war machine. As you amass troops during the 50-plus missions, you'll learn new strategies to coax victory on killing fields where up to 3,000 characters exercise their blood lust.
And if the monstrous campaign mode, rumoured to offer around 50 hours of gameplay doesn't do it, perhaps you'd be more interested in the Xbox Live modes, where you can wage war with faraway friends and foes.
There is, however, a problem: this is precisely the sort of gameplay depth that has the uninitiated running away, which is why the developers have included tutorials and spectator modes, where you can learn exactly what makes for victory.
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes should be in stores this September.
