Kojima Pushes Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3
If you want to get down with Snake, you're going to have to get comfortable with the batstick. But at least Kojima is hell-bent on providing something more for the next instalment.
If the destination of Metal Gear Solid 4 is the deciding factor in which next generation console to buy, then series producer Hideo Kojima has just made up your mind for you - or so it seems.
The lauded director's latest game will be coming exclusively to Sony's next-gen console, Kojima told Japanese magazine Famitsu, as reported by GameSpot.
"Metal Gear Solid 4 is only scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 at the current time," he told Famitsu.
"Of course we could port it to other consoles, but doing so would require additional staff and research and development costs. If I were to make games for the Xbox 360 or the Revolution, I'd rather create original titles that match each console's audience, instead of the Metal Gear Solid series."
That would appear it be that, then. But Kojima did have good things to say about Xbox 360, and he has pulled a fast one before.
Apart from hiding Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty lead character Raiden from gamers all through development, Kojima's most recent white lie involved this latest game itself, when he said that he would only have hands-off involvement in its development.
Hands-off has now been transformed to distinctly hands-on and it remains to be seen if his PlayStation 3-exclusive threats persist.
Either way, gamers can look forward to something truly ambitious. The barriers to 3D gaming have been destroyed, Kojima said, and it's time to progress beyond the movie-based themes running through so-called cinematic games to create something more organic.
"I want to make a real world," Kojima said. "I'm planning on advancing from realism to naturalism."
