Sony: We're Ready for Microsoft
Despite Microsoft's ambitious goals, Sony says it's ready to take the fight to the Redmond giant.
Microsoft will launch its next generation Xbox this Christmas and has plans to get the new console into 10 million living rooms within the first 12-16 months. That doesn't worry Sony.
"We're ready," said David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, at the International Games Summit, taking place in London.
The PlayStation 3 came out on top after last month's E3 trade conference and is headed to retail early next year. The next major outing for the console will be at September's Tokyo Game Show, where some are expecting Sony to have playable games.
Reeves took a shot at Microsoft's ambitious early targets too, saying: "First mover advantage is there if you have momentum, but not really if you're standing still."
And it's not clear yet how long of a window of opportunity Microsoft will have. Reeves admitted that he had no idea when PlayStation 3, which is set for release in Japan next spring, would launch in Europe.
Reeves added that exact launch dates would be decided on towards the end of the year, and that he hoped Europe would see the new console during spring 2006 as well.
