Revolution to Enhance Nintendo Favourites
If old Mario doesn't do it for you, perhaps a slightly better looking old Mario will.
The big news coming out of E3 for Nintendo was that its new console, Revolution, will be able to play games from its entire back catalogue, spanning the rich history of the company, from NES to SNES and Nintendo 64. The console will also play both GameCube and Revolution discs.
But a recent article in EGM suggests that perhaps Nintendo is planning something more. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, told EGM that the company is currently experimenting with improving the graphics of old NES games such as Super Mario Bros.
"The game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different," Iwata told EGM. "It's possible that with Revolution we may be able to see the old games with new looks."
But beyond what it can do with the past, Nintendo fans are looking to see what Revolution will do for the future.
There is much speculation at the moment about how the apparently revolutionary controller will look, with everything from gyroscopes to full-face touch-screens being suggested.
Nintendo is a way off from releasing Revolution, though, and the company is still tinkering with the final design. Iwata told EGM that we could expect to see more of the controller by the end of the year.
