Asterix & Obelix Give Games a Wedgie
Popular gauls ram their tongues firmly into their cheeks for a lampoon of some of gaming's greats. First screens.
Spinal Tap did it to heavy metal, The Producers did it to the Nazis, and now Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission Las Vegum is turning a parodical eye on the game industry.
This newest game starring the menhir-carrying fat man and his petite magic potion-downing compatriot centres on that crazy old bat Getafix, who is acting very strangely, even as his druidic colleagues vanish from around country.
The game takes tongue-in-cheek punches at several of video games' biggest players, including Lara Croft, Pac-Man, Mario and even Tetris - although that's strictly speaking not a person.
Besides knowing nods, the game also features, in Atari's words, ultra-dynamic combat pushed to the extreme for even more madness and turmoil. Phew.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission Las Vegum will be out on PlayStation 2 and PC sometime during October - right around the same time as the funny book stars make their return in comic form.
