Prey: Footage of THE Next Big FPS?

Well yes, it is obviously footage - a ten minute, direct feed trailer in fact. The next big thing in FPSes though? Quite possibly... you decide!

There's probably at least a little excuse for not having heard of Prey yet; the stunning upcoming FPS from Human Head Studios and 2K Games was shown off in video form at E3 last month, but there was surprisingly little post-show hype surrounding the title, despite that it looks like, quite possibly, THE next big thing in first person shooters.

As you'll see in this frankly incredible, 11-minute-plus direct feed trailer, Prey boasts a number of genuinely new and exciting gameplay features. Where Half-Life 2 introduced milestone innovations such as useful, gameplay-fundamental real-time physics, Prey appears to add a whole loads of new stuff to the FPS mix, including some near-indescribable gravity and wormhole- related- madness.

Not only that, but already, the theme, storyline and atmosphere seems to be shaping up as extremely compelling stuff. All of these things must surely be filed straight into the "see-to-believe" folder - so get downloading.

Prey tells the story of Tommy, whose life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.

Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games.

Gamers are warned to expect an unpredictable world where nothing can be taken for granted. Most of the game takes place within a living ship, a giant entity that can sense and react to Tommy's presence.

Please note that contrary to the labelling at the start of the video, Prey is coming to Xbox 360 in addition to PC. We'll be bringing you a lot more on this sensational title - stay tuned.
