Max Payne Goes to the Movies
The gritty noir adventure series joins the cavalcade of games morphing into movies.
His head may be flat, but Max Payne's popularity is on the up. The angry cop at the centre of Remedy Entertainment's Max Payne series will soon be crossing the gridlocked bridge to the movies.
Producer Scott Faye, currently wrapping up work on teen horror flick The Reaper, will see his seven-year itch to create a Dirty Harry-like epic scratched by the game-turned-movie.
The film, which has not yet been cast, is set to recount the violent beginnings of Max Payne's story, where the murder of his wife and child see Payne going undercover to infiltrate the mob before being framed for the murder of his partner.
The gapped plots so prevalent in games serve as ideal source material for movies, said Faye:
"Unlike a novel, video games by nature leave gaps in the story, which allows filmmakers an opportunity to flesh out the story and fill those holes in a meaningful way."
