Medal of Honor Holds Back Newcomers
Britain braces for attack as Medal of Honor rebuffs a swell of new releases.
While past weeks have been bedevilled by a lack of new releases, last week was quite the opposite, as eight new games made it into the top 40.
And in a week that saw four new entries to the top 10, it was EA's World War II shooter Medal of Honor: European Assault that clawed its way to the premiere position. There was more shooting just behind it in the form of Battlefield 2, which incidentally had the third-best debut for a non-sports PC game.
Movie tie-ins are, somewhat predictably, still doing well, as Batman Begins and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith both find themselves in the top 10, alongside newcomers Tekken 5 and Conker: Live and Reloaded, the Xbox remake of the Nintendo 64 classic.
A similar victory was sadly spared from Another Code, Nintendo's new point-'n-press adventure game for DS, which despite beating out perennial DS chart topper Super Mario 64 DS only made it as far as the 28th spot.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 25 June, as determined by Chart Track:
- Medal of Honor: European Assault (EA)
- Battlefield 2 (EA)
- Juiced (THQ)
- Destroy All Humans! (THQ)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
- Tekken 5 (Namco)
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (LucasArts)
- Batman Begins (EA)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- Conker: Live and Reloaded (Eidos)
