Big Red One Hears the Call of Duty
Publishers and developers show no sign of letting up on the World War II-themed shooters. Latest screens.
You could be forgiven for thinking that developers' infatuation with World War II should have worn off by now, but the constant success of their war-games means we'll still be seeing them for a while. Case in point, Activision is starting to get word out on its own new World War II sequel.
Activision is keeping mum on the precise make-up of Call of Duty 2: Big Red One - not to be confused with Call of Duty 2 for Xbox 360 - other than that it plays through the perspective of a single character and takes you on a whirlwind tour of some of the big war's most popular theatres, including North Africa, Italy and Central Europe.
The title refers to the US Army 1st Infantry Division, which kicked off America's involvement in World War II in Operation Torch, in North Africa. After routing the Nazi Afrika Korps, the Big Red One moved to Sicily and Germany, via Omaha Beach on D-Day and the Battle Of The Bulge.
Activision has been parsimonious too with release details, but the game should be out this year for Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube.
