Metal Gear Sneaks Up to PSP Launch
The cover may make you think otherwise, but this is not your father's Metal Gear.
There are less than two months left until Sony (finally) releases the PSP in Europe and publishers are getting their ducks in order, and that means announcements of launch titles. The latest to join the fray is Konami, which has confirmed that Metal Gear Acid will be on shelves come launch day.
Metal Gear Acid adds a card-based twist to the familiar Metal Gear we know and love. All actions in the game - from equipping weapons to slinking about in the dark to firing off shots from your silenced pistol - are handled through cards in a turn-based action system.
And while the story may not mesh exactly with what you've experienced in past Metal Gear Solid games, it does walk a similar path. In Metal Gear Acid you guide Snake as he tries to rescue the US president-to-be from maniacal maniacs.
The concept may sound daunting to virtual spies groomed on the Dual Shock controller but reviews from the US and Japan paint a promising picture to entice European espionage aficionados.
Metal Gear Acid will be in shops at the same time as the PSP, in the beginning of September.
