Juiced Slays God on UK Charts
Or how a driving game managed to come out on top nearly a month after release.
The scene for UK gamers is a familiar one. As the summer stretches on, companies continue to shy away from releasing new games, firmly subscribed to the idea that games sell over the Christmas season and that's that.
In the vacuum, gamers took note of the high-profile promotional campaign for THQ's Juiced, allowing the game to leapfrog over Medal of Honor: European Assault to assume the No. 1 spot nearly a month after it debuted.
The top new release for the week was Sony's God of War, though the company will likely be disappointed in the fifth place finish as the action title has been well reviewed here and abroad.
And as expected, movie tie-in Madagascar got a good bump after the latest DreamWorks animated movie gave audiences giggles in limited screenings across the country this past weekend. The movie officially opens later this week, and all eyes will be on the game to see if excited kids can push it further up the chart.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 9 July, as determined by Chart Track:
- Juiced (THQ)
- Medal of Honor: European Assault (EA)
- Destroy All Humans! (THQ)
- Cricket 2005 (EA)
- God of War (EA)
- Madagascar (Activision)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (LucasArts)
- Battlefield 2 (EA)
