187 Ride or Die Cruises onto the Web
Ubisoft's gangster-slash-street-racing game finds a home on the Internet
While an increasing number of games try to be Citizen Kane, others are made by developers who realize that what a lot of people want is xXx. To that end, Ubisoft is gussying up the combat-racing genre with a hefty dose of Grand Theft Auto stylings for urban street-racing action game 187 Ride or Die.
Playing as a young buck named, well, Buck, you set out to battle your mentor's nemesis to reclaim turf. Battles, if they can be called that, see you driving fast cars, surrounded by fast women, while shooting big guns at bad guys who are doing likewise.
The game is heavy on attitude, playing up the inner-city hoodlum vibe that rocks the world of the Grand Theft Auto generation.
Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft have brought in several celebrities to give the game the cred it needs. The cast includes rising hip-hop artist Guerilla Black who recorded the game's main theme, Larenz Tate (star of Menace II Society) and Training Day's Noel Gugliemi.
187 Ride or Die will be out for PlayStation 2 and Xbox on 26 August. Find out more about the game at Ubisoft's official site.
