Final Fantasy XII Falls to '06
Square Enix's loyal fans are forced to wait even longer.
The much-delayed next instalment in Square Enix's venerable Final Fantasy franchise finally has a release date, but it likely won't come as pleasant news to the RPG company's faithful supporters.
During Square Enix Party 2005, a Square Enix-only games event that that took place in Tokyo this past weekend, the company revealed that Final Fantasy XII will be out for PlayStation 2 in Japan on 16 March.
Quite where this puts the European release is currently not known and Square Enix's local representatives are refusing to get specific about when the game will make its way here.
According to Square Enix's Stephanie Journau, Final Fantasy XII will be out in Europe "later in 2006".
The late release puts the game in the unfortunate position of going onto shelves right around the same time as Sony's PlayStation 3. And with the console already confirmed to be more expensive that many are expecting, that could leave a lot of people choosing where their allegiances lie.
Final Fantasy XII is the first true Final Fantasy game in four years. The intervening period saw the release of Final Fantasy X-2, a side story to Final Fantasy X, and the massively multiplayer and multiplatform Final Fantasy XI.
