Gates Sees Xbox 360 Speeding Ahead
Even the PS3 and Xbox 360 may be, but the MS founder sees an ace in the hole for his company.
Despite all the back and forth, the general opinion is that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are about equally as powerful, which is why Microsoft chairman Bill Gates is so excited that his console will be coming out first.
Speaking to analysts last week, Gates said that Xbox 360's earlier debut would be a big plus for the console, and that it would help it stay ahead of the PlayStation 3, according to a report at tech site CNET:
"Our view is basically: We've got a Ferrari. They've got a Ferrari. Our Ferrari is leaving the starting line substantially before their Ferrari is, and, in most races, that's a very nice thing."
While Sony's next-generation console isn't due until spring 2006 (and even then that's only in Japan), Xbox 360 will be hitting stores around the world this Christmas.
Earlier this year Microsoft's Peter Moore said that the company is hoping to get 10 million Xbox 360s into living rooms around the world by the winter of 2006. The ultimate goal for Microsoft in this generation is to reach out to a billion people.
