Stargate Pulled from Red-Faced Perception
Aussie developer has contract cancelled; game possibly going next-gen.
The upcoming video game adaptation of the space-time continuum-jumping sci-fi series Stargate-SG1 has been canned by publisher JoWooD over concerns that the game was not up to par.
"The title in its current form, initially scheduled for an October 2005 release, does satisfy neither our quality requirements nor the fans expectations," said JoWooD CEO Albert Seidl.
"We will not release anything that does not do justice to this well known license."
While this is bad news for fans of the show, it's surely worse for fledgling Australian developer Perception. According to a message on the developer's site, it is currently talking with other publishers about working on next-gen licensed and original games.
Perception will now have to hand over its work to JoWooD, which is considering what to do next.
"We are not prepared to release anything but a top quality title," said Seidl. "Fans of the show as well as gamers would not accept anything less."
"There are several options to consider, among them potentially moving to next-gen consoles for the title."
