Mizuguchi's Ninety-Nine Nights of Action
Rez and Lumines creator swaps music for mayhem in next-gen game for Microsoft. New screens.
Microsoft has made a lot of noise about its efforts to lure Japanese gamers to its next-generation console and a lot of this has centred on one man: Rez and Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. The man best known for his recent music-based games is working on an action game for Xbox 360 called Ninety-Nine Nights.
Little is known about the game at the moment other than that one of its central themes is perspective.
The game, which tempers the abundant action with slivers of strategy, visits the restoration of a world torn asunder. The story is told through the eyes of several characters - Mizuguchi won't say how many - giving you different sides to the same conflicts.
Aesthetically the game parades the impressive scale the Xbox 360 is becoming known for thanks to games like Rare's Kameo: Elements of Power. Early screenshots show battlefields crammed with thousands of creatures and characters of many races.
There are no release details for Ninety-Nine Nights yet, but the game is sure to be trumpeted at next month's Tokyo Game Show.
