Cricket Tops the Charts Again
No new games means that Ashes-driven cricket demand floats to the top.
A dominant start by England in the third Ashes test at Old Trafford was the likely catalyst that got Britons buying cricket games again last week.
National pride and a sense of wanting to get closer to the action helped Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 take No. 1 on the UK charts in a week that saw not one new game enter the top 20.
The West Indies batsman's latest cricket game has been playing musical chairs for the top position with the tenacious movie tie-in trio below it since its debut last month. There's more cricket in the top of the ranks too, with EA's unadventurously-named Cricket 2005 rounding out the winning five.
The lone new release to make the Top 40 chart was Zoo Digital's Premier Manager 2005-2006. Look for more footie games to start populating the charts soon to coincide with the new football season, which starts this week.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending August 13th, as determined by Chart Track:
- Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 (Codemasters)
- Madagascar (Activision)
- Fantastic Four (Activision)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Take 2)
- Cricket 2005 (EA)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- Medal of Honor: European Assault (EA)
- Juiced (THQ)
- Destroy All Humans! (THQ)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
