Japanese Gamers Tiring of the PSP
Not only are they not keen on things other than games, they're not all that keen on the games either.
Sony may want to push the PSP as an all-around device that does movies, music and more, but in Japan at least those that have picked one up are mostly sticking to games.
A study conducted by Japanese firm Infoplat found that only 1-in-10 PSP owners had watched a movie and most said they had no intention of buying one either.
Sony latest campaign has been to push the PSP online - through a recently released software update - but only a quarter of the 1,000 people surveyed also said that they had updated their PSPs since the new software package was made available at the end of July.
But perhaps the most distressing figure to come from the study is the revelation that half of the PSP owners surveyed said they had not touched their handhelds in "some time". There's a growing feeling that Sony and other publishers are relying too much on ports of existing games to the PSP, which is surely hurting customer interest.
Sony will be hoping for a lot better support in the UK, where the PSP will launch on 1 September, nearly nine months after its debut in Japan in December.
