Nintendogs Bite US Gamers
Cute puppies transform into rabid killers at US registers.
Despite the excellent performance of the game in Japan, where it sold more than 400,000 copies, Nintendogs was more of a gamble outside of its home country. Any fears surrounding the success of the puppy simulator have been killed off with the news that the game has performed beyond expectations in its opening weeks in the US.
More than a quarter of a million people picked up Nintendo's latest non-game in just its first week on sale in the country, GameSpot is reporting.
The game's launch was accompanied by a price drop for the DS, which is regaining momentum in the race against the PSP.
"Nearly 15 per cent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week," said Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime. "Retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors."
The next stop for Nintendo's lovable pooches is Europe. Nintendogs will be out in the UK on 7 August.
