PSP Slays All on UK Charts
The handheld's success translates into total domination of the sales rankings.
With the PSP now officially the fastest-selling video game system ever in the UK, it comes as no surprise that games for Sony's portable have swarmed the top ranks on the weekly UK sales charts.
Fully nine out of the top 10 and 16 of the top 20 games in the UK for the last week are on the PSP. Coming out on top, however, was Namco's Ridge Racer, which has also been one of the best selling games in the US and Japan.
Somewhat surprisingly, Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 for PlayStation 2 proved resilient in the face of the portable competition and managed to stay near the top of the chart, coming in at the No. 2 spot.
Sony's biggest challenge now is maintaining this early momentum. Sales started out strong in both North America and Japan at their respective launches, but a slowdown in new releases has resulted in waning interest.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 3 September, as determined by Chart Track:
- Ridge Racer (Namco)
- Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 (Codemasters)
- WipEout Pure (Sony)
- Virtua Tennis World Tour (Sega)
- Metal Gear Acid (Konami)
- Need For Speed Underground: Rivals (EA)
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Rockstar)
- TOCA Race Driver 2 (Codemasters)
- Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix (Activision)
- Spider-Man 2 (Activision)
