Another MMORPG Passes Million Mark
NCsoft's Guild Wars reaches the magic number - online massively multiplayer games are seemingly taking over the planet.
NCsoft has announced that more than one million people in Europe and North America are now playing the Guild Wars, the latest online role-playing game from the Korean publisher.
So-called "massively multiplayer" online adventure titles have grown phenomenally popular with gamers in Korea and China over recent years - and many of them have made a successful transition into western markets. Guild Wars would appear to be the latest success story.
According to NCsoft, account activations for the game have reached this significant figure in less than five months - and the game is showing "no signs of slowing".
The company has also announced that a Guild Wars Special Edition, containing both physical and digital goodies, including an exclusive book filled with never-before-seen artwork, will go on sale on 21st October. The publisher says the release will celebrate "the commercial and critical success" of Guild Wars, although sceptics might say they're also trying to shift a few more copies as well.
Geoff Heath of NCsoft Europe revealed, "Without a doubt, Guild Wars has been our most successful title in Europe to date." Champagne all around, then.
