Fresh Slicing for Resident Evil DS
Yes, it's another remake of Resident Evil, but this one lets you cut zombies in the face. Hooray.
Next year, Capcom will celebrate the Resident Evil series' 10th anniversary with yet another remake of the original game for the DS called Resident Evil: Deadly Silence.
While the company could easily have made a lazy port of the classic and have been assured excellent sales, Capcom has gone all out, rejigging the experience to sit more comfortably on the unique sofa that is Nintendo's new portable.
For starters, you'll be able to hack and slash at the walking undead using the stylus in a new first-person mode. It's not clear right now, but from reports at IGN, it seems that this is triggered at certain times and is not a viewpoint you can take at will.
Both screens of the DS will be fully utilised, with most of the action taking place on the lower screen (so that you can control it using the stylus, natch) while the top screen will host a map and also, by its colour, give you an indication of your health status.
As is becoming the norm with DS games, Capcom also appears to have included multiplayer modes for up to four people. Capcom hasn't revealed yet whether you'll be able to play through parts of the story with a friend of if the multiplayer is relegated to an added versus mode.
There's no release date yet for Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, but you can expect it to hit Japan around the series' 10th anniversary on 22 March and the US and Europe soon afterwards.
