Sony Still Mulling PS3 Pricing
And it doesn't sound like the company is in a rush to make any confessions either.
Sony's Ken Kutaragi has been uncharacteristically blunt about the price of the company's upcoming "entertainment supercomputer", warning on several occasions that the console will be expensive. Quite how expensive, though, is still up in the air.
As yet, there's no price for the PlayStation 3, and Sony will be ruminating on it until the last minute. Sony's Masatsuka Saeki told Japanese magazine Famitsu that the launch price is a critical point for the company and it's a decision it's not ready to make yet, according to a report at GameSpot.
The PlayStation 3's road to release has been unexpectedly quiet.
Many expected playable PlayStation 3 games to show up at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this month, but Saeki confessed that Sony's executives decided to hold them back as the show would be the Japanese public's first glimpse of the company's console future.
Instead of letting the public go hands-on with the console, the decision was made to instead show off upcoming games in video form only.
Sony is, however, putting together its launch strategy for the console and is prepping a major event to push the PlayStation 3 for early in the new year.
