Sony Draws Religious Wrath in Italy
Company takes 10th anniversary celebrations a touch too far.
Sony has recently seen the 10th anniversary of the debut of the PlayStation in Europe, but the company's celebrations have gone too far for some and have drawn the ire of Catholics in the country.
The cause of the brouhaha is a print advertisement put out by Sony in Italy. The ad, which contains a picture of a young man with a PlayStation button-themed crown of thorns and the inscription, "Ten years of passion", has caused outcry among some religious conservative in the country, according to a report at Reuters.
Antonio Sciortino, editor of a popular Catholic weekly publication, was clearly not amused by Sony's promotional efforts and called the company out for going "too far".
According to Sony's Italian arm, "the spirit of the message was misunderstood", but the company has bowed to public pressure and it has since pulled the ad campaign.
