FIFA Goes to the Head of Charts
EA pulls in another No. 1 as the onslaught of fourth quarter releases begins.
The downpour of games with the turn to autumn is as predictable as the browning of the leaves and darker afternoons. And it's EA that finds itself ahead of the rest with the release of FIFA 06 last week for just about every platform available.
Sales for the PlayStation 2 version were in fact so strong that the game has become the fifth-fastest selling game ever in the UK.
The strength of EA's Burnout series was in full effect too, as the latest console entry, Burnout Revenge, held onto second place despite fierce competition from the heavily rejigged Far Cry: Instincts (itself a former PC hit), Sega's latest Rome: Total War expansion and Conflict: Global Storm, the terrorism tinged shooter from Eidos.
Nintendo should be pleased to see one of its DS flock entering the chart again as the touch-enabled follow-up to the popular Advance Wars series hit stores. Advance Wars: Dual Strike captured a 12th spot and marks a turning point for the DS, which will see the release of Nintendogs later this week.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 1 October, as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- Burnout Revenge (EA)
- Far Cry: Instincts (Ubisoft)
- Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion (Sega)
- Conflict: Global Storm (Eidos)
- The Sims 2: Nightlife (EA)
- Burnout Legends (EA)
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War Winter Assault (THQ)
- Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 (Codemasters)
- Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (Midway)
