X05: The Outfit Dresses Up for X360 Debut
If what you want is mass devastation amid World War II thrills and spills, THQ has something for you. First screens.
You could be forgiven for assuming that game developers (and buyers) would have tired of World War II games by now, but there are still many that can't help but lose themselves in the great war's rich history. WWII is being given a less serious and more violent edge for THQ's upcoming Xbox 360 shooter, The Outfit.
The game differentiates itself from most other games set during the period by offering a third-person playing perspective. It's also a team-based game, which means putting your life in the hands of your comrades.
The extra power afforded developers by the Xbox 360 is being used, in THQ's case, to give you an open-ended experience where you can rain down destruction yourself or using the game's Destruction on Demand feature.
Fans of LucasArts's Mercenaries series should recognize this, as it's quite similar to that game's feature of allowing you to call in for air support. The Outfit takes this to the next level, letting you call in not only air strikes and other distance attacks but also new equipment, such as vehicles and ground reinforcements, for use on the battlefield.
The power of Xbox 360 will also be visible in the destructible environments that litter the game. Basically, if you can see it, you can destroy it.
You'll play as one of three suitably specialized soldiers, and THQ is promising advanced artificial intelligence for the rest of your team, to make sure that they have your back when the hail of bullets comes.
Of course, the developers, knowing that this sort of experience is best had while screaming, red-faced, into a headset, have included a wealth of Xbox Live modes to savour once you're done with the 12-mission main course.
The Outfit will be out only for Xbox 360 sometime this Christmas.
