Dead or Alive 4: Hi-Res Gameplay Vids
Forget saving the best till last: you have to check out our hi-res 60fps gameplay videos of the life-completingly pretty DOA4 in-game action RIGHT NOW.
As one of the Xbox 360's most prominent launch titles, Dead or Alive 4, has some pressure on it to meet high expectations. Our recent hands-on time - and these resulting gameplay videos - show that it's meeting high standards we're expecting in no small measure.
These fantastic gameplay videos are some of the most perfect we have ever captured on cam, and are presented below in our usual hi-resolution, sixty frames-per-second quality. The game itself, which runs at a flawless 60fps, looks even more stunning in its wonderfully anti-aliased, true HD form, but this is frankly the very best you'll be able to see how lovely DOA4 looks until you play the game yourself later this year.
We've even made sure that the audio in the videos is as crystal clear as you could expect. In short - these are essential downloads. If your PC is struggling with the hi-res versions, we've also included normal quality versions of the videos that should do you just fine.
In terms of gameplay, Dead or Alive 4 is undoubtedly a step up from previous instalments in the series; a range of subtle gameplay improvements add extra depth to the game, that anyone familiar with DOA Ultimate on Xbox Live and its legendary "SS"-ranked master players will know about.
The new characters are all worthy additions. In brief: Kokoro adds the expected Japanese female fighter to the mix with a fighting style not dissimilar to that of Aoi from the Virtua Fighter series; Eliot is the new blonde-haired boy whose style seems to be sort of a mix of Hakkyokou-ken and Preying Mantis Kung Fu - we might be a bit off the mark with that, because we're clueless, so decide for yourself in the videos. Eliot looks a bit like a girl though - but nevermind.
Finally, La Mariposa is the gorgeous new Mexican pro wrestling, who series creator Tomonobu Itagaki has strongly hinted is in fact Lisa from Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. She uses a fighting style called Lucha Libre which is sort of a dancing-cum-fighting type of deal that is fantastically animated. See the video evidence!
The fighting stages are simply breathtaking, with a number of already well-known set pieces such as the cars on the Vegas-like street which can actually hit the characters sending them flying into the air.
DOA4 is simply the best looking game on Xbox 360 right now, combining technically astounding graphics with an art style that is as fresh now as it has been since DOA2 and the debut of DOA3 on Xbox. Get downloading!
We'll have much more on Dead or Alive 4 over the coming weeks and months.
We have also added tonnes more new Xbox 360 videos here and we've even set up a new PS3 video page here.
