Is the PSP Getting a Hard Drive?
More rumours that Sony's portable is taking its storage options to the next level.
Is your PSP's memory card getting a bit full? Do you have too much music and too many movies than your poor portable can handle? Reprieve may be at hand. US accessory maker Datel is said to be working on a 4 GB hard drive for the PSP that also comes with a double-life battery pack, according to a report at GameSpot.
So far, Datel has yet to officially confirm that the hard drive is coming, but such a move is surely the next step for the more-than-a-games-machine portable.
Earlier this month, US analyst Piper Jaffray predicted that Sony itself would be releasing a hard drive for the PSP - something Sony has refused to comment on.
Giving the PSP more storage space is the natural evolution of the portable, which from the start has been pushed by Sony as a complete portable entertainment platform.
Already movies on UMD are doing well, with the best selling hundreds of thousands of copies. There are also many software tools freely available on the Internet that let you rip your own movies for playback on the PSP.
