Spielberg, EA Team Up for New Games
He helped kickstart the WWII shooter craze, and now Steven Spielberg is getting back into games.
In some ways, Steven Spielberg is responsible for the glut of World War II-based shooters out there right now, after his successful collaboration with EA on the original Medal of Honor game kick-started the sub-genre. Now, Spielberg has decided that the time is right to reunite with the mega-publisher.
Spielberg and EA have signed a deal that will see the celebrated director working closely with EA's Los Angeles development house - the team behind the Medal of Honor series - on three new titles. There's nothing in the way of solid details on any of the games right now, but Spielberg's involvement alone is enough to warrant a cocked ear.
Somewhat surprisingly, given how full Spielberg's plate is at the moment with movie projects, he will be contributing at all levels to the games, providing the team with his vision for the project and getting involved in the nitty gritty of story and design.
"I have been playing EA games for years and have watched them master the interactive format." Spielberg said at the announcement of the deal.
"Having watched the game industry grow from a niche into a major creative force in entertainment, I have a great deal of respect for EA's understanding of the interactive format. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team in Los Angeles."
