FIFA Overpowers Spidey for Top Spot
Peter Parker's Spidey Sense proves futile in the face of Wayne Rooney's complete lack thereof.
With little in the way of new releases it shouldn't come as a surprise that EA's welcoming footie update, FIFA 06, managed to hold on to the top spot on the UK sales chart for the third week in a row.
Sales of the newly released PSP version helped push the long-running franchise ahead of EA's newest instalment in its other unstoppable sports series, Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
Elsewhere on the chart, the only new ground broken carried a distinct comic theme as two of Marvel's new games made the top 20, including Ultimate Spider-Man, the only new entry in the top 10 this week.
Sega's Spartan: Total Warrior was the best performing of the rest. It jumped to third on the back of a solid promotional campaign.
The cute 'n cuddly Nintendogs showed some of the resilience that has accompanied the game outside of Europe. Rabid wanna-be dog owners helped two of the three versions of the DS non-game stick around in the top 20. Quite what Britons have against Chihuahuas isn't clear.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending October 15th, as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 (EA)
- Spartan: Total Warrior (Sega)
- Ultimate Spider-Man (Activision)
- Burnout Revenge (EA)
- Black & White 2 (EA)
- Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood (Ubisoft)
- Conflict: Global Storm (Eidos)
- Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (Midway)
- Nintendogs: Lab & Friends (Nintendo)
