Pro Evo Overpowers FIFA at the Tills
Konami's footie game comes out on top in a week filled with new releases.
Going back to school may not be much fun, but at least it gives game companies reason to start getting games out again. The UK charts were for once dominated by fresh blood, with seven of the top 10 games making their debut last week.
With its rival already setting itself up for a stay at the top, Pro Evolution Soccer 5 came in and showed FIFA 06 that its heightened sense of realism is not to be taken lightly. Konami's footie title became the fifth fastest selling game ever in the UK and came in at No. 1, just ahead of Sega's yet-more-detailed Football Manager 2006.
Non-football games also got a fair shake at the tills last week. Rockstar's movie tie-in The Warriors strolled into the top 5, though all eyes are on the company's PSP debut in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, which is out either this Friday or next - the company still doesn't know itself.
And then there's Pokémon. After nearly a decade, you would think that the critters' popularity would have waned, but the latest entry in the series, Pokémon Emerald, still managed a top 5 finish.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 22 October, as determined by Chart Track:
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- Football Manager 2006 (Sega)
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- The Warriors (Rockstar)
- Pokémon Emerald (Nintendo)
- F.E.A.R. (VU Games)
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 (EA)
- Ultimate Spider-Man (Activision)
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (Atari)
- Quake IV (Activision)
