Nintendo Plans Global Revolution for 2006
Company extends mantra of trying to please all the people all the time by giving them all the Revolution at the same time.
The days of jealously eyeing other countries while you wait for a console's release seem to be coming to an end. First Microsoft came with its ambitious simultaneous Xbox 360 launch plan and now Nintendo seems to be doing the same.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business, as reported by GameSpot, that the company is going to try to get the Revolution out to everyone at the same time, "as much as it's possible".
And when will that be? Nintendo said earlier this year that its aiming for a spring 2006 release date and that's still a possibility. Iwata refused to get specific on the date but he said the console would be out sometime after this winter.
However, going global all at once isn't an easy task, as Microsoft is learning. Peter Moore, a vice president at Microsoft, recently conceded that if the company knew how hard it would be, they probably wouldn't have tried.
Microsoft is now facing a guaranteed sell-out of its insufficient 360 stock as it tries to keep gamers across the world happy this Christmas. And Nintendo will be watching.
