Gun - New Screens and Videos

Fresh visuals for Neversoft's foray into the Wild West. Screens and videos included, six-shooters not.

Considering that the game is set to debut at the end of next week, Gun hasn't been getting much attention from Activision. Created by Tony Hawk series developer Neversoft, Gun tells a classic Western story steeped in revenge and violence.

While other games, TV shows and movies would have you believe that the Wild West was populated by laughable curmudgeons and the occasional showdown at high noon, Gun is instead rooted in reality - specifically in author Cormac McCarthy's version of it as laid out in his seminal and bloody novel Blood Meridian.

The Wild West was a place where lives were blown away with scarcely an afterthought and where our hero Colton Wright finds himself suddenly orphaned after his father tells him on his deathbed that he's not his father at all. A coin and a whore kick off a tale of revenge as Colton goes to Dodge City to start his voyage of self-discovery.

When we last looked at Gun, back in July, Activision was concentrating on the current-gen versions of the game - and our minder told us that Neversoft was using the PlayStation 2 as its design base. This doesn't perhaps invoke the greatest confidence that the game will wow those looking for a true next-gen experience, but the latest screens and videos (below) suggest that the Xbox 360 version is coming along nicely.

Gun is out in Europe for Xbox and PlayStation 2 on Friday, November 11th, and for Xbox 360 later this year. For a better idea of what to expect from the game, check out our full eyes-on preview from earlier in the year.
