Doom RPG Puts Hell in Your Pocket
John Carmack's action-packed shooter series comes to, er, your phone. Really. Screens and movies inside.
Id Software's seminal first-person shooter series Doom has been crushing underpowered PCs for nearly 12 years now, but soon it's going to turn up in the unlikeliest of places: your mobile phone.
As you probably guessed, though, Doom as an FPS is not going to work on any current phone, so Id has instead recast the game as, of all things, a turn-based RPG.
While the action in Doom RPG may superficially look similar to its age-old forebear, this latest version of Doom has you battling Hellspawn in what Id says is, "a tactical, turn-based combat system for easy to learn one-handed gaming."
Doom creator John Carmack apparently had the idea for the game when he realized that there were woefully few decent mobile phone games to play.
Doom RPG is available now for O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone customers.
