Square Enix Squashes Final Fantasy Rumour
The company takes the odd step of confirming that it hasn't confirmed anything. Lunacy inside.
The Internet lit up last week with rumours that RPG behemoth Square Enix was considering taking its flagship Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises to multiple platforms in the next generation, but the company has sent out an official release to debunk the buzz.
"Speculation about the availability of Final Fantasy series and Dragon Quest series games on these systems has been reported on various media," reads the release. "However, we have made no concrete decision on our strategic direction of this issue."
"We will continue to disclose any important information regarding business operations immediately after we make any relevant decision."
The rumours in question were based on comments made by Square Enix president Yoichi Wada last week to Reuters. Wada suggested that the company was still undecided in its next-gen plans.
"We will decide by E3 in May [2006] as to whether to release them on both the PS3 and Xbox, or just one platform," Wada told the news service.
The two top-selling franchises appearing on the PlayStation 3 is almost a given, but putting them on Microsoft's next-gen box would be a boon for the company.
