Free Radical Does Next-Gen for Ubisoft
The TimeSplitters (and ex-GoldenEye) team picks up a job from Ubisoft for an unnnamed new game. Vague statements inside.
When core members of the design team for seminal shooter GoldenEye for Nintendo 64 left to form a new development house there were concerns that Free Radical Design wouldn't be able to repeat its past success.
The award-winning TimeSplitters series put paid to those fears. And now the team has signed a deal with Ubisoft that will see the creators working on a new game for next-generation consoles and PC.
So far there's not much known about the new game, though Ubisoft has admitted that it'll be targeted at mature gamers. The company says it will, "feature difficult strategic choices and moral dilemmas, tapping into both their rational and emotional instincts."
The language of the press release and Free Radical's history hints at a first-person shooter with suspenseful overtones.
"With this game, we plan to take players to a new level of intensity and create an environment at once terrifying, enthralling and impossible to resist," says Ubisoft's Virginie Gretz of the new project.
Look for Free Radical Designs' next-generation debut title to arrive sometime before spring 2007.
