Nintendo Scam!
Well not really. But someone should tell them about vgmusic.com before dolling out ringtones...
With all the fuss surrounding Xbox 360 this week, you could be forgiven for thinking that nothing else on the planet was actually happening - but a reminder from Nintendo proves otherwise.
But the Japanese videogame giant wasn't promoting its next big GameCube or DS title, or even hyping up its next console, codenamed Revolution. Nintendo had something much cooler to announce.
Ringtones and wallpapers, the Nintendo way! That's right, gamers will be able to kit out their phone this Christmas by downloading Nintendo-themed ringtones and wallpapers straight to their WAP mobile phones.
Nintendo game tunes will be ringing all over the place at Christmas with an exclusive range of tones and wallpapers, available through Nintendo's VIP 24:7 members club. Gamers simply have to redeem the 'stars' collected from game purchases, starting December 5th.
Nintendo fans can check out what's on offer at the official site, where classics like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime are waiting to be downloaded. From 2nd December, Nintendo is also launching a WAP Portal, where fans can access official Nintendo info and videos.
Nintendo failed to mention that an unofficial (but perfectly legal) website containing thousands of game music Midi files, vgmusic.com, has been offering superb homebrew interpretations of game music for years, and they're all compatible with modern mobile handsets.
