OutRun Coast 2 Coast Nearly Confirmed
Sega fans' favourite driving game is all-but-confirmed now and coming to Sony's systems too. New details inside.
Fans of Sega's OutRun series have had a lot to be happy about over the past two years. First OutRun 2 and its quasi-sequel smashed into arcades, resurrecting the iconic franchise, and then the game returned to consoles with OutRun 2 for Xbox. Now an updated version has been revealed for Sony's current game systems and the Xbox.
Sony's North American site spilled the news that a new game in the series, OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, will be out for PSP and PlayStation 2 in 2006. The PlayStation 2 page has since been pulled.
A leak by US retailer EB Games earlier this year suggested that there's an Xbox version in the works too.
So what is it? Many believe the game will be based on OutRun 2 SP: Special Tours, an arcade-only update that debuted in 2004.
Sega has refused to comment on any of the rumours or even acknowledged the games' existence, but the slip-up by Sony almost guarantees fans of the long-running series will have more to tide them over next year.
According to Sony's early information, the game is set for release in February 2006, though Sega has declined to comment on whether that will happen.
