OutRun Coast 2 Coast Finally a Reality
Sega's Ferrari-tastic driving game gets gussied up for a showing in early 2006. Official confirmation inside.
One of the worst kept secrets in games has been confirmed as Sega officially announced OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. today. What is surprising is that despite the arcade original, OutRun 2, being developed on the Xbox-based Chihiro hardware, the game will instead be coming only to PlayStation 2, PSP and PC.
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, which is again being developed by Sumo Digital, is the ultimate collection for fans of Sega's rejuvenated driving series. The Ferrari-only car line-up now sports 12 cars, including brand new models such as the F430 and the Superamerica.
The game includes a full 30 tracks plucked from OutRun 2 and the arcade-only quasi-sequel OutRun 2 SP: Special Tours. There's no confirmation of whether the bonus tracks added to the original Xbox port of OutRun 2 will be included in this new game.
"Amazing Ferraris, incredible courses, beautiful girls - and all available on Sony's PSP and PlayStation 2," said Sega's Matt Woodley. "The only thing you'll be asking for is another go!"
Sumo has beefed up the gameplay with online modes letting up to six players go head-to-head. The game will also feature link-up features, allowing you to unlock PSP- and PlayStation 2-specific content by connecting the games.
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast will be out only for PlayStation 2, PSP and PC in March.
