Sam Fisher Turns Double Agent
The Splinter Cell star's debut next-gen game (also coming to current consoles) sees him tackling both sides of the law. First screens inside.
Grizzled super-spy that he is, Sam Fisher has seen a lot of action in his Splinter Cell games, but for the next instalment in the popular sneak-'em-up series, Ubisoft is sending Sam along a different path in his new mission as a double agent for the NSA.
The seemingly simple core concept of Splinter Cell: Double Agent brings a new strategic level to the familiar action. Sam must infiltrate an international terrorist organisation to rot it from the inside. But to do this you'll have to closely plan what you do.
To keep your cover, you'll have to work alongside the terrorists, working towards their goals. At the same time you'll be receiving mission instructions from the NSA, and you'll have to decide how far to expose yourself to bring about both sets of goals. And how you play the game will determine which of the game's multiple endings you see.
Unlike the previous games in the series, which have largely been handled by one of Ubisoft's development teams, Splinter Cell: Double Agent is being farmed out to several of the company's design houses, including to the renowned Montreal studio, the home of the franchise.
"Gamers are going to find themselves immersed in entirely new territory that will allow Ubisoft to expand on its already captivating Splinter Cell franchise," said Ubisoft's Tony Kee.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent is planned for release next spring for Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC.
